Trauma & Emotional Regulation Therapy

Beyond Talk Therapy: Let Your Body Lead the Healing

Trauma counseling helps people heal from painful or overwhelming experiences —things that may have happened in the past but still affect how you feel or react today.

How Trauma Therapy Helps

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to healing from trauma. Different people respond to different methods—and that’s okay. In our work together, we draw from proven therapeutic techniques to help you feel safer, more present, and less controlled by the past. Below are two approaches that we may use depending on your needs and goals.

Schedule an Appointment

1. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a therapy that helps the brain “reprocess” upsetting memories so they don’t feel so intense or triggering. It uses eye movements (or other forms of left-right stimulation) while you think about a memory. This helps your brain sort through the experience—kind of like how it naturally processes things during dreaming—so the memory feels more distant, less emotional, and more like something that’s in the past.

2. DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

teaches practical skills to help individuals live in the moment, manage intense emotions, cope with stress, and enhance relationship skills by striking a balance between acceptance and change.

3. Parts Work (Inspired by Internal Family Systems or similar approaches)

Parts work is based on the idea that we all have different “parts” of ourselves— like inner voices or feelings that take over at different times. You might have a part that’s angry, a part that feels scared, or a part that tries to keep everything under control. These parts often form to protect us, especially during tough times. In therapy, we help you get to know these parts with curiosity and compassion— not to get rid of them, but to understand them and help them feel safe. Over time, your inner system becomes more balanced and calm.

3. Somatic Therapy

Your body holds the story. Healing helps you rewrite it by learning to feel calm, grounded, and making your nervous system feel safe again.

What's It Like in a Session?

In a session, we go at your pace. Some days might involve more curiosity and exploration, other days might include guided exercises, using EMDR reprocessing or helping you connect with and understand different parts of yourself. The goal is to help you feel more present, grounded, and free from the past.
